Get Involved…There’s a spot for everyone!
Volunteering at Playa Vista Elementary doesn’t have to mean a huge time commitment. Whether you have an hour to help at a single event or want to join a committee for the year, there’s a role that fits your schedule and interests. From setting up for the Back to School BBQ to helping run the Book Fair, sorting donations, or joining our Room Parent network, every bit of help makes a real difference for our students and teachers.
Volunteer Opportunities
- Become a room parent and function as your class’ cheerleader and liaison between FPVS and the families in your class
- Classroom support (dependent on your teacher’s need and requests)
- Event volunteering (BooBash, Book Fair, Field Day, Teacher Appreciation Week)
- Join a Committee
Friends of Playa Vista runs on parent volunteers and with some specific committees. Joining one is a great way to get involved in a way that fits your interests and schedule; no prior experience needed. The general Volunteer committee is a way to hear about a variety of opportunities and choose what works for you. Established committees will have WhatsApp group chats to organize and work on specific items as needed.
Current Open FPVS Committees:
- General Volunteer – general pool of volunteers who will be sent volunteer requests as they come up throughout the year. A flexible option for parents wanting to volunteer without large commitments.
- Sunshine Committee – spreading kindness and appreciation to our teachers and staff all year long. Each month the committee organizes mini appreciation events, stocks the staff lounge and promotes appreciation throughout the school.
- Multicultural Committee – celebrating the diversity of our Playa Vista families. This committee supports various cultural months and activities as needed.
- Auction Committee – a group of volunteers tasked with helping our Auction coordinators on getting donations for our BooBash and Spring auctions.
- Yearbook Committee – taking and organizing photos, working in canva on class collages and events pages, and supporting the sales/distribution of yearbooks.
- Campus Beautification Committee – helping keep our campus clean and beautiful all year long (trash pickup, gardening, murals, special maintenance projects as needed)

How to Become a School Volunteer
New Volunteers
- Complete the LAUSD application at volunteerapp.lausd.net
- Electronically sign the Volunteer Application.
- Submit your proof of tuberculosis clearance to the PVES front office; visit your physician or walk-in urgent care.
- Attend a volunteer orientation hosted by the principal at PVES. This must be completed annually.
- Once approved, you’ll receive an approval letter from LAUSD.
- Please sign-in and wear your volunteer badge when volunteering on campus.
Continuing Volunteers
Continuing volunteers submit an annual application to keep their personal and contact information current in the Volunteer Management System. Your application will prepopulate. Simply review and submit. Attend a volunteer orientation hosted by the principal at PVES.

FPVS Annual Volunteer Interest Breakfast
Kick off the school year by joining us for our Annual Volunteer Interest Breakfast! This is where you’ll learn about the many ways to get involved at Playa Vista Elementary, from committees to one-time events. It’s also where we discuss and assign Room Parents for each classroom. Come enjoy breakfast, connect with other parents, and find the volunteer opportunity that’s right for you!
