Get Involved…There’s a spot for everyone!

Volunteering at Playa Vista Elementary doesn’t have to mean a huge time commitment. Whether you have an hour to help at a single event or want to join a committee for the year, there’s a role that fits your schedule and interests. From setting up for the Back to School BBQ to helping run the Book Fair, sorting donations, or joining our Room Parent network, every bit of help makes a real difference for our students and teachers.

Volunteer Opportunities

  • Become a room parent and function as your class’ cheerleader and liaison between FPVS and the families in your class
  • Classroom support (dependent on your teacher’s need and requests)
  • Event volunteering (BooBash, Book Fair, Field Day, Teacher Appreciation Week)
  • Join a committee
  • One-time opportunities that fit a busy schedule, and ongoing weekly roles for those who want more involvement

Friends of Playa Vista runs on parent volunteers and with some specific committees. Joining one is a great way to get involved in a way that fits your interests and schedule; no prior experience needed. The general Volunteer committee is a way to hear about a variety of opportunities. Established committees will have WhatsApp group chats to organize and work on specific items as needed.

How to Become a School Volunteer

New Volunteers

  1. Complete the LAUSD application at volunteerapp.lausd.net
  2. Electronically sign the Volunteer Commitment Form and the Liability Waiver. Keep your volunteer identification number for your records.
  3. The school will ask for proof of tuberculosis clearance; visit your physician or walk-in urgent care.
  4. Once approved, you’ll receive an approval letter by email from the Office of Student, Family, and Community Engagement, and an official District badge will be at the school for use when you volunteer.
  5. Contact the school for the date of a volunteer orientation, where school and District expectations and procedures are reviewed.

Continuing Volunteers

Continuing volunteers submit an annual application to keep their personal and contact information current in the Volunteer Management System. Your application will prepopulate. Simply review and submit.

FPVS Annual Volunteer Interest Breakfast

Kick off the school year by joining us for our Annual Volunteer Interest Breakfast! This is where you’ll learn about the many ways to get involved at Playa Vista Elementary, from committees to one-time events. It’s also where we discuss and assign Room Parents for each classroom. Come enjoy breakfast, connect with other parents, and find the volunteer opportunity that’s right for you!
